Inspirational Memorial Daniel "P Nut" Douville

I did not know this amazing man personally. Josh LaRoe, a friend from high school who serves our country, and is someone I respect very much, will share Daniels' memory.
Please take the time to read his story, remember that freedom is not free, say a prayer for Daniels beautiful family, and be thankful this memorial day!!
On June 26, 2011 my friend and brother TSgt Daniel "P Nut" Douville was killed in action by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Helmand Provence of Afghanistan. I am thankful I knew Daniel and grateful for his service to our country.
TSgt Daniel "P Nut" Douville
It was May 1997, many of us had just graduated US Air Force Basic Military Training and were on our way to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) school, which is a fairly tough school in the Department of Defense. There were 16 of us that started out in our training and 11 months later at graduation there were only four.  Jim, Damian, Daniel (P Nut) and I had made it through the training and had formed strong friendships and a brotherly bond. The EOD community is somewhat of a fraternity of brothers and sisters in the military. We are very small in numbers and we performed a task that required a great deal of trust between each other, we worked hard and played hard. Daniel was one of these guys that you knew when you met him that he was going to be special and he was someone you immediately trusted. He's been referred to as a Super Hero and I won't disagree with that statement based on what he was to his family, friends, his fellow warriors, and to our country. After graduation, I had very little contact with him over the years but always considered him a friend and brother - that's just how things are in EOD. Daniel went on to marry LaShana in the years following graduation and had three beautiful children. His faith in God and leadership within his family gave them the strength they would later need when dealing with his death. He died in June this year and he is missed. I am thankful to have known him. To Daniel and every other service man and woman that has paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, I am grateful... that he knew God and that his family is confident they will see him again.
I will not forget and I will always know the true reason why our country celebrates Memorial Day.

"For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words."
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
